open notepad and type .LOG at the start of the notepad file, then save with whatever file name you want; when you next open the notepad file the timestamp will be automatically appended and the cursor moved to the end.

also press f5 to manually insert timestamp.

ITunes Store – Not Connecting

Recently moved to a new ISP as well as upgraded iTunes, since performing the previous two tasks I could no longer connect to the iTunes Store, I would either get an error message or just a blank page.

After much painful troubleshooting, and refusing to uninstall/reinstall iTunes; found the following to work rather well:

Delete the iTunesPrefs.xml file which can be found in the following locations:

Note you need to ensure that iTunes is not running when removing the following files:

C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
C:\users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes

CallTrack is one of the best apps I have found in regards to logging phone usage to my Google Calendar. It can log incoming, outgoing and missed calls.

Caps Lock:ON/OFF notification

this has been bugging me, and frustrating me something awful especially when playing a game and you accidentally press the caps lock key you get the notification just above the notification area in windows and the game you are in breaks out to windows.

Finally traced it to an application called bttray.exe (bluetooth tools etc) you can disable the notification by editing the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\KeyIndication

The key was also found here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General

The above keys, use a reg_dword with a value of 1 to enable the notification, so in order to kill the notification change the value from 1 to 0 and enjoy (reboot might be in order after change)

Backtrack 4 – VMWare Workstation

Decided to play with Backtrack 4 VMWare guest , had a few issues with getting the client to autofit within the VMWare window, after upgrading VMWare tools add/change in the Device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf the parts below highlighted in bold.
